Hello humans,
So the 2025 election season has been and gone. You’ll have noticed that I didn’t partake in this year’s local contests, for which I naturally apologise. The Bristol mayoralty did appeal, but in the end I decided to keep my powder dry for the truly big one: the 2026 Croydon Mayor contest. I reckon that one’s got my name on it, don’t you?
But even though I wasn’t directly involved, I was as ever interested, amused and appalled in equal measure by the results of the May Day poll. It’s curious, isn’t it, that just as Canada installs Mark Carney as PM and Australia re-elects its Labour incumbent Anthony Albanese, Britain decides to flirt with a lurch to the hard right.
Picking through the bones of the election results, a few things struck me. Not least the way to defeat and indeed destroy Reform UK. You can keep your Sir John Curtices. Hold onto your lids for the only analysis you’ll ever need!
